Moving schools can be challenging for all children and young people. For children in care, transitions can be particularly challenging and often occur more frequently. Successful transitions for children in care can happen when they are well-planned, there are clear and regular communications, and the young person feels welcomed and connected to the new school.
Children in care transition funding is automatically provided to preschools and schools when a child in care enrols in their site. A new guidance has been created to support schools and preschools navigate the transitional funding process. The guidance will provide information on how to best use the funding, support for successful transitions for children in care and links to services in the department for more information and resources.
