To help children and students tackle the big emotions they feel following a traumatic event, Jayne Wright from Largs Bay School and Tor Campbell from Port Pirie West Primary School took on the challenge of writing a picture book.
They wrote the book after they were unable to find age appropriate resources to help children manage their emotions and mental health after experiencing trauma.
The book explores strategies children can use to manage their emotions and mental health using rhyming text and simple illustrations. Largs Bay School student Ayden Topp illustrated the book and manages to capture the child’s perspective through his drawings.
Jayne and Tor have extended the use of the book into the classroom by also developing an activity pack to help students understand their feelings and improve their wellbeing. Schools and preschools will be provided access to the activity pack with their copy of the book.
The department is providing the opportunity for all preschools and schools to have a copy of Hidden Hope.
To request your copy of the book, email Amy Featherston with your name, position and school or preschool by Friday 18 June.
