A 6 month opportunity exists for an experienced Student wellbeing leader to work within the department’s Engagement and Wellbeing directorate to support secondary schools in taking action in relation to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by young people is associated with risks to mental health and wellbeing, it can interrupt learning and have developmental impacts that continue into adulthood. This is an exciting role where you will be able to provide targeted advice and support to assist individual school’s local knowledge, practice and capacity building relating to drugs and alcohol.

The specific support would be negotiated with interested schools according to their need and could involve:-

  • identifying local avenues of referrals, support for parent/community education/information
  • advice on related curriculum delivery and drug education
  • accessing third party drug and alcohol education programs
  • exploring closer links with SAPOL (such as a possible demonstration/information session with SAPOL in relation to Passive Alert Drug Detection (PADD) dogs)
  • supporting any secondary school that opts into a proactive PADD dog operation

You will be supported and enabled in your work by an experienced team with expertise in alcohol, tobacco and other drug initiatives and available services.
