Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) empowers and equips people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to assist others at three key stages:

  • when someone is developing a mental health problem
  • when someone is experiencing worsening of an existing mental health problem, and
  • when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis.

The training equips educators with the skills to recognise and respond to an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis situation.

Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, YMHFA teaches participants how to support an adolescent until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

Steps to complete the training
There are two components to complete the YMHFA training in 2022:

  • Component 1: self-paced e-learning (3-4 hours online)
  • Component 2: an instructor-led (1-day online or face-to-face session).

Register on plink here.

Component 2 must be completed within 3 months of completing Component 1.

This training is free of charge for all Student wellbeing leaders.
